Qualifications |
Jeff Halstead brings a
varied wealth of experience to the topic of effective classroom instruction. A
National Board Certified Teacher and staff developer, he has spent over twenty
years in the classroom teaching English, journalism, and social studies. He
served as a trainer, leader and curriculum designer for the Gates
Foundation-funded Teacher Leadership Project (TLP), which trained over 3,500
Washington educators in the use of instructional technology. He currently is
teaching for Gonzaga University and serves as a lead curriculum designer and
trainer for the Washington Education Association’s Innovate! Integrate! Jumpstart
program.
For Spokane Public Schools, he helped create an intensive professional-development program entitled Building the Capacity for Leadership in Technology, which trained over 400 teachers to infuse instructional technology into best teaching practices. In addition, Jeff has designed and taught virtual-learning courses, served as a Washington State University facilitator for National Board candidates, and has led graduate-level education classes. He has presented at regional conferences and at workshops in other states. He continues to teach and facilitate candidates through the rigorous National Board process. Jeff received his bachelor’s degree in English and his master’s degree in education from Whitworth University. He was National Board certified in 2002. Empowering Excellence: Creating Positive, Invigorating Classrooms in a Common Core Environment (2014) is his newest book. Prior to writing Navigating the New Pedagogy: Six Principles that Transform Teaching (2011), Jeff worked for seventeen years as a freelance writer. His work has been featured in regional and national magazines as well as major newspapers. He lives with his family and their dogs in Spokane, Washington, USA.
